Our Experience
We had fun playing Vampire at The Puzzle Parlour, and we recommend it with a Fun Factor of 7. That rating reflects a nice variety of puzzles with clear, elegant solutions, a straightforward game flow, and a few standout tactile interactions that elevate the experience. One puzzle involved a mechanic we hadn’t yet encountered, which is always a treat for us after hundreds of rooms.
The set design lands comfortably above the midpoint, offering gothic accents, atmospheric music, and thematic props that support the “spooky castle” feel without ever pushing into horror. We did notice a bit of wear - Nothing meaningfully hindered gameplay… but one item had wear that slightly obscured needed information—ironically, a clue to pay closer attention.
Lighting was uneven in one area, but in keeping with the theme, but the game master proactively offered additional lights for us to carry, and players are permitted to use phone flashlights. There are no tight spaces or physical demands, making the room accessible for most teams.
The Clue System
The hint system is one of the room’s most fun features. We always appreciate hint systems that are organically incorporated. Hints appear inside a coffin with backlit holes; when you request one, the coffin rumbles theatrically and presents the clue. We didn’t need hints during the game, but the staff demonstrated the system afterward—and it’s memorable.
Flow & Puzzle Design
Vampire is a fully linear room driven primarily by thematic scrolls that point cleanly to the next objective. Despite the scroll mechanic, there is very little reading – no laborious passages, and the flow is intuitive and beginner-friendly. The Puzzle Parlour describes this as their easiest room, and having now played four rooms at the venue, we agree.
Though several puzzles fall on the basic side of the difficulty spectrum, a few rise to intermediate challenges that will feel rewarding for players seeking a bit more depth. Most puzzles are thematically appropriate for a castle setting, and even those loosely connected to the theme never felt out of place. We did unintentionally solve one puzzle slightly out of order, but it didn’t impact the experience.
Group Size
Because this is a highly linear experience, larger groups may find it harder to keep everyone equally engaged. We think 2 to 4 players is the sweet spot, and the room is especially approachable for duos.
Venue Notes
The staff at The Puzzle Parlour were warm, welcoming, and clearly enthusiastic about escape rooms—something we always appreciate. Parking and nearby dining are convenient as well, making this an easy location to plan around.
Final Thoughts
We had fun playing Vampire and recommend it. It’s a well-paced, linear adventure with strong atmospheric touches, tactile puzzle moments, and a delightfully theatrical clue system.
