We had fun!

We had a fantastic time playing Witchly Ever After and highly recommend it, awarding it a Fun Factor of 9. That Fun Factor is based on a well-themed set and props that fit the story, and puzzles that reinforce the whimsical narrative. This fairy-tale themed room is fun for adults and appropriate for families. Omescape leans into tactile, hands-on interactions with set pieces—always a favorite for us—and ties them neatly into puzzle design.

Fun set with many whimiscal details!

Story & Atmosphere

This is a playful twist on “fairy tales gone wrong.” From the very beginning, you’re immersed in a story where a bitter witch has altered the endings familiar tales, and it’s up to your team to fix them. I don’t think we call many sets charming, but this set is charmingly decorated with fairy-tale details, giving plenty to explore and observe. Fans of fairy tales will appreciate the references, though no prior knowledge is necessary to solve the puzzles.

Puzzles & Flow

The game flow is logical and engaging, with smooth transitions as new areas of the set and additional puzzles open up. At one point early on, the group is asked to split, with one person temporarily going solo while the rest divide to tackle puzzles in parallel. I usually don’t love player separation, but here it’s short, well-designed, and never stressful—communication is constant, and the puzzles make elegant sense…but most importantly, this game design was right on theme – and once the initial puzzle in this space was solved the entre group could explore it.

Nonlinear elements keep the whole group engaged, and there’s enough content for larger parties. Difficulty is primarily intermediate, with some that lean to the basic difficulty level, that make this a good choice even for less experienced players.

A standout feature is the transparent, scalable difficulty. Groups that progress quickly unlock additional, optional challenges – the puzzles are not optional to complete if you unlock them…but they are an optional challenge for groups that progress quickly. These blend seamlessly into the décor, so slower groups won’t even realize they’ve missed them. We enjoyed this design choice—more teams will complete the game successfully, but the more adept teams won’t feel like they didn’t get enough content. For us, more puzzles just meant more fun!

Space & Group Size

The footprint is generous for a 60-minute room—larger than average, though not massive. The set decoration shifts between fairy-tale themes, keeping exploration fresh...and the set probably felt larger than it was due to the thoughtful layout. The official booking size is 3 to 6, and we see why: there’s a lot of content, and early nonlinear puzzles demand at least three active players. Our group of four felt ideal, though five or six could still stay fully engaged.

This room is family-friendly. Younger players can meaningfully contribute, with scavenging and pattern identification - but the puzzles are definitely satisfying for adults.  There are no crawling or climbing moments but there is one place when at least one person will need to crouch down to enter a space.

Overall Impression

Witchly Ever After is a joyful, well-crafted escape game that had us smiling the whole time. Omescape balances story, tactile interaction, and puzzle variety beautifully, with clever scaling to keep all groups challenged. We left smiling, and would happily recommend this room to anyone looking for a fairy-tale escape with a twist.

Omescape has another location not far from this one in Sunnyvale – there are many standout games there that will be the subject of future reviews.  The San Jose location is at a standard business park-like location, so there is plenty of easy parking.  All of the staff we met at Omescape, San Jose were friendly and welcoming – making Witchly Ever After an especially great choice for families and new or first-time escape game players. The lobby and the facilities are ample, nicely decorated, and very clean.  We highly recommend you play Witchly Ever After at Omescape in San Jose – if you go, please let them know you saw a Fun Factor Escape Room Review – also please drop us a line and let us know what you think…and HAVE FUN!
