Decades ago, Shadow Point Asylum was known for its dark and abusive history. One night, a violent patient named Nellie Baure allegedly unleashed chaos in the west wing, leaving behind a legacy of fear and unanswered questions.
Your team of investigators has been tasked with exploring the abandoned asylum, uncovering what really happened—and escaping whatever presence may still linger.
Our Experience
We had fun playing Secrets of Shadow Point at Wild Goose Escape and recommend it with a Fun Factor of 7. As always, we only recommend rooms where we genuinely have fun—and this one delivers.
This is firmly a horror-themed experience. There are no live actors > > but the room leans heavily into atmosphere, with detailed set design, gory visual elements, and a few well-timed audio-driven jump scares. If you’re sensitive to that type of content, it’s something to keep in mind.
For us, the scare factor is always a bit subjective—like judging how spicy food is—but the environment here clearly aims to create tension and unease. We personally didn’t find it scary, and indeed the company’s website says its “creepy” not “scary” – but its recommended for ages 14 and up…and that makes sense.
🏚️ Atmosphere & Set Design
The standout element here is the set design. The room does an excellent job transporting you away from a Huntington Beach strip mall into a convincingly aged and worn asylum environment.
As you progress, new areas open up, and each space continues to reinforce the narrative. The setting does a lot of the storytelling work, and it’s consistently immersive without feeling overproduced or distracting.
🧠 Puzzle Design & Gameplay
The puzzle design is solid and generally well integrated into the theme. Some puzzles feel highly immersive and story-driven, while others lean more toward traditional escape room mechanics—but the balance works to keep the action moving.
You’ll encounter a good mix of tactile interactions, prop-based challenges, and puzzles that require connecting information across multiple spaces. There are also cooperative elements that reward splitting up, which helps pacing and keeps everyone engaged—especially helpful in a horror setting where tension can build when teams divide.
⚖️ Things to Know
One of the final sequences didn’t land for us. It leans heavily on searching, and with a smaller group—like our team of two—it felt more tedious than satisfying compared to the rest of the experience.
This is the main reason we recommend a group of at least four players. While two can complete the room, a larger team helps balance the workload and maintain momentum through the final stretch.
Also worth noting: the location is in a strip mall, so parking is easy and convenient.
✅ Final Thoughts
Secrets of Shadow Point is a strong, immersive room with excellent set design, solid puzzle variety, and a cohesive theme which is definitely is in the horror genre…but thinking spooky and creepy as to outright terror – but there is a jump or two.
It’s a great choice for players who enjoy atmospheric environments and a few well-timed scares—but prefer not to have live actors in the room.
