Madge, the neighborhood cat lady, has a problem. Her beloved kitty, Whiskers, has mysteriously disappeared, and the timing could not be worse. Tonight is Madge’s big Double or Nothing Bingo Jackpot night, and she is not leaving home until Whiskers is found.

Your team has been recruited as Madge’s trusty neighbors to search her very cat-friendly, very lived-in apartment, follow the clues, sort through the chaos, and hopefully reunite Madge with her missing companion before the bingo balls start rolling.

Our Experience

We had a lot of fun playing Here Kitty Kitty at Escape Room LA, and we highly recommend it with a Fun Factor of 8.

In our experience playing all the rooms at Escape Room LA, there are a lot of varied and clean puzzles and puzzle tracks…and Here Kitty Kitty fits very comfortably into that  group. This is not a room built around scares, darkness, or intensity. It is built around a delightful, quirky premise, a playful setting, and a generous amount of puzzle solving.

The story is simple: Whiskers, the cat, is missing, Madge needs help, and bingo cannot wait forever - we are talking conflicting priorities here. From there, the room gives players plenty to do. We found the experience to be busy, clean, and satisfying, with a nice mix of puzzle types. There were observation-based moments, multistep solves, some physical interaction, audio/listening components, and even a sensory element worked into the experience.

Game Flow and Puzzles

The room also has a good amount of nonlinear solving. That worked especially well for our group because players could split up, explore different puzzle tracks, compare discoveries, and then regroup as needed. This is one of the reasons we think 3 or 4 players is the sweet spot. A strong duo could certainly play the room. With 3 or 4, there is enough content to divide and conquer without feeling overcrowded.  But our experienced group of 5 made quick work of the puzzles, and even though we were not rushing we had lots of time on the clock.  So we peg the difficulty on the intermediate side. There was not much that slowed us down saved for a layered puzzle that was most satisfying to solve. As an experience group we had a lot of fun, thanks to its playful storyline and varied solves, but this room may be particularly well suited for less experienced players looking for an approachable escape room challenge.

There are moments where the puzzles feel more “escape room logic” than “realistic missing-cat-investigation,” but that did not bother us as the puzzles are fun and vaired. The tone of the room is light, playful, and a little silly, and we were happy to go along with it. When the puzzles are this clean and the content is this plentiful, we do not need every step to be perfectly justified by the story. That said, the theme is consistently present, and the cat-lady apartment setting gives the room a clear personality.

One thing to know about Escape Room LA is that their hint style is a little different from many escape room companies. In the rooms we have played there, the game master has been physically present in the space. In Here, Kitty Kitty, that fit the setup nicely, with the GM essentially hanging out in the apartment in the comfy cahir, while remaining available if we needed assistance. It is part of the Escape Room LA style, and while it may surprise players who are used to a fully isolated game environment, we did not find it bothersome.

We also appreciated that the room kept revealing new things to do. It had that “we solved something, and now there is more to work on” rhythm that we tend to enjoy. The experience stayed active throughout, and the final stretch brought the different threads together in a reasonably satisfying if not slightly improbable way.  Of the 4 rooms at Escape Room LA, the footprint of the set is on the smaller side.  But that felt authentic because it a retiree’s apartment and it was decorated with tons of detail and authentic set pieces and props. We feel Escape Room LA does set decoration particularly well.

Venue recommendations

A practical note: Escape Room LA is located in downtown Los Angeles, so parking can vary depending on the day and time. We have had good luck finding parking on weekends, but downtown is downtown. If you are playing at night, we recommend parking as close to the venue as reasonably possible.

We also recommend the other rooms at this location: Black Dragon, Pyramid and Atlantis. Black Dragon pulls out a bit in front as our favorite at this location. And it is a much darker and expansive experience better suited to experienced teams.

Highly recommended - approachable by new players

Overall, Here Kitty Kitty is a charming, puzzle-rich with a fun premise and loads of content. It is another strong Escape Room LA experience, and we continue to recommend their rooms to teams who enjoy clean, busy, puzzle-forward escape games.

We highly recommend Here Kitty Kitty at Escape Room LA.

If you play, please let them know you saw a Fun Factor Escape Room Review. And if you do play, please drop us a note — we would love to hear what you thought.

Until next time, keep escaping — and remember: sometimes the real jackpot is finding the “kitty” before bingo starts — and have fun!
