Our Experience

We had a fantastic time playing The Grand Immersia Hotel at Immersia Escape Rooms, just outside Montréal, and awarded it a Fun Factor of 9. That Fun Factor rating reflects the game’s wonderfully varied and richly decorated set design, integrated puzzles, and cohesive storyline that is immersively supported by the props and puzzles.

As always, our review is spoiler-free—so we’ll confine our description to what’s shared on the company’s website and official photos. The premise: you’ve been brought to the Grand Immersia Hotel under less-than-ideal circumstances, and it’s up to you to decide whether to cooperate with your captor or find your own escape. How you arrive at the hotel is one of those moments best experienced firsthand, and having that unfold before us was an early highlight.

This room has received worldwide praise and has been on the TERPECA list since 2020 – in fact, in 2020 it was ranked number 58 in the world…and through the date of this article, it has maintained its ranking among the top 300 escape rooms in the world.  That recognition is well-earned – but our recommendation is based on the engaging, fun time we had playing this room.

Set & Story

Immersia has created a richly detailed hotel environment, one that feels both expansive and narratively purposeful. We’ve played many “hotel” or “apartment”-themed rooms, but what sets this one apart is the diversity of spaces: from private quarters to the public lobby, and even functional / service areas. Each location feels distinct yet contributes organically to the overarching story.

If you have read our reviews, you know that we love puzzles that seem organic to the surrounding story – those help immerse us in the story. And indeed, Immersia Escape Rooms ties the puzzles organically tied to your surroundings—what you’d expect to find in each area becomes an authentic part of the gameplay itself. The transitions between rooms are handled effectively, and the way you access the hotel’s public spaces is particularly memorable. The set, props, and lighting reinforce a sense of place that’s both cinematic and immersive.

Interactions & Atmosphere

While Grand Immersia Hotel is not an actor-driven experience, there are brief character-infused moments that enhance the narrative without overwhelming it. For those who tend to avoid rooms with live actors, this one should still feel entirely comfortable. The interactions are limited, contextually appropriate, and help build tension rather than fear.

For full transparency, here’s how the company itself describes the experience:

“In November 2024, we made some improvements to the puzzles and story. May contain some mildly stressful moments and the presence of a character. Suitable for all ages.”

That description is accurate—expect mild suspense/stress. The emphasis remains squarely on puzzling, exploration, and immersion.  But the character-infused moments add context, content, and engaging story elements

This room is bookable by group sizes of 2 to 8 players.  This room is playable by two experienced players, but we recommend 3 to 6.  We feel the larger groups will have a great time exploring the many detailed areas – there is plenty of content to engage larger teams…and there will be room to spread out.  The puzzle difficulty ranges from basic to intermediate, and while many puzzles are variations on familiar methods, Immersia Escape Room does a great job integrating the puzzles and game flow into the scenario.

Final Thoughts

Immersia’s Grand Immersia Hotel has many elements we consider essential for a fun escape room: elegant production values, logical puzzles, and an unfolding story that rewards attention to detail. If you play Grand Immersia Hotel please let them know you saw a Fun Factor Escape Room Review – also, please drop us a note to let us know what you think.

There are promotional videos available in both English and French that offer a glimpse of the visual world without revealing key mechanics.

This is a world-class escape room experience and another excellent example of why Immersia continues to be one of Québec’s most consistently inventive creators.  We did not have time to play all of their rooms – so we will be back.  We have previously reviewed and recommended Project R.E.S.E.T and you can find our review here.
