Our Experience
We had fun playing Scrooge: Search for the Holiday Spirit at Conundrum Escape Rooms in the Denver area, and we recommend it with a Fun Factor of 6. That rating reflects an effective blend of puzzles, story elements, and game flow that bring the familiar Scrooge narrative to life in an enjoyable and accessible way.
The puzzles are varied and include a wide mix of observation-based tasks, making connections, scavenging, pattern recognition, and light logic. There is a lot to do, and the game keeps players engaged throughout.
We’ll admit upfront that we are fans of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol and enjoy many of its interpretations. We initially sought out Conundrum to play their highly rated Experiment C-73, but when we saw they also offered a Scrooge-themed room, we knew we had to play it as well. And we are glad we did – we had fun.
Conundrum Escape Rooms
Conundrum Escape Rooms has two locations - Lakewood and Arvada. We visited the Arvada location. The Arvada Conundrum facility has easy parking, multiple escape rooms, and ample space for parties and team-building events. Everyone we interacted with was friendly, welcoming, and happy to chat about escape rooms—which, admittedly, sometimes makes us a little chatty before a game begins.
The set design for Scrooge: Search for the Holiday Spirit delivers effective 19th-century Old England vibes. Conundrum does a good job using props and set pieces to move the story along, and we appreciated how iconic elements from the Dickens material were incorporated into both the environment and the puzzle flow.
That said, no prior knowledge of the Scrooge story is required to complete the room. However, those familiar with the tale—which is probably most people—will enjoy the references woven throughout the game. As part of the Conundrum Dream Agency you will help Scrooge navigate the ghostly visits and change his ways.
Game Flow and Group Size
This room can be booked for 2 to 10 players. Conundrum recommends 4–6, which feels reasonable, though we suggest 3–5 players, depending on experience level and age. The room and content is family-friendly, with many scavenging elements that make it particularly well-suited for younger players —who, in our experience, tend to excel at finding things far better than Laura and me. The puzzles, however, are geared for adults, so do not expect puzzles built for children to solve.
Overall difficulty leans toward intermediate, largely due to the volume of tasks. Smaller groups of two or three may feel challenged by how much there is to do, especially as the game progresses, where larger groups are likely to excel later in the game. Like a good story, the room builds momentum, with more scavenging, pattern recognition, association, and organization required toward the end.
There are no particularly challenging physical elements in this room.
If you visit Conundrum Escape Rooms, we recommend Scrooge: Search for the Holiday Spirit as a fun escape room experience, especially if you enjoy the Scrooge story as much as we do. We also played Experiment C-73, which we highly recommend and will be the subject of a future review. Until then, keep escaping and have FUN!
