Our Experience

We had a fun time playing, and are recommending The Investigation Continues at Bernard Jones at Paradox42 in the Montreal, Canada area, and awarded it a Fun Factor of 7. That rating reflects a solid mix of puzzle styles—many leaning toward the more advanced side—and a satisfying blend of scavenging, logic, and tactile interaction with a set that draws you into the mystery.

Premise & Story

As the premise sets up, Bernard Jones is a recently retired veteran known for his tech savvy and for covering his tracks. The police may have him in custody, but without evidence, the case goes nowhere. Your task is to slip into his apartment, outsmart any traps or locks he’s set to cover his tracks, and uncover what he’s been up to and find the needed evidence.

This room leans into the classic detective/secret-agent genre, and Paradox42 uses its compact footprint effectively. The space convincingly evokes a lived-in apartment/office hybrid—dense with detail but light on unnecessary red herrings. Despite the relatively small size, the game takes you through a progression of distinct areas and puzzle moments that keep the experience varied and engaging.

Puzzles & Gameplay

Puzzle-wise, you’ll find a wide range: observation-based tasks, clever connection-making, scavenging elements, logic sequences, and tactile props that add physicality in fun and inventive ways. One puzzle in particular required both coordination and careful observation; it took us a bit of time to develop the right technique, but the solution felt clear and satisfying once we cracked it.

Group Size Considerations

This room can be booked by three to six players and while this room can be played by two experienced players we recommend 3 or 4 for both the size and scope of the room. If you are a duo please check out Paradox42’s website for scheduling and pricing information applicable to duos. On an overall basis, we rate this room on the advanced side, but there are several intermediate-type puzzles as well. But there are clearly puzzles that will be enjoyed by those who like a more advanced challenge.

Final Thoughts

Overall, this is a well-structured classic escape game mystery room with enough challenge to keep adventurous teams engaged. We enjoyed the sense of progression, the puzzle diversity, and the way the space is used to tell the story of Bernard Jones.
