Review: The Tipsy Tailor, Intrepid Escape Rooms, Orange Co. Calif.

Fun Factor: 8

Tipsy Tailor

Intrepid Escape, 1622 Edinger Ave, Suite C, Tustin, CA 92780

The Tipsy Tailor was previously hosted at Escapement Rooms in Tustin until mid 2025. Intrepid has updated the sets and tech significantly and added a few new puzzles, but most puzzles are similar to the original game.

Date Played: February 26, 2026

Booking Size: 2 to 8 (we recommend 3 to 5)

Game Time: 60 Minutes

Difficulty: Intermediate to Advanced

Horror Theme: No

Objective (Spoiler-Free)

You are part of a time-travel mission to go back to the Roaring Twenties, where a seemingly ordinary tailor shop hides a much shadier operation. It is the time of prohibition after all, and some special beverages…“tonics”…are in high demand.  Somewhere among a collection of tonics is one bad batch that could alter history in disastrous ways. Your team must figure out how to gain access to the tailor shop and find and remove from the 1926 as many bottles of tonics as possible before time runs out. If you can also save Babe Ruth from a questionable beverage along the way, all the better.

Our Experience

We had a lot of fun playing Tipsy Tailor and highly recommend it with a Fun Factor of 8. As always, we only recommend rooms where we genuinely had fun—and this one absolutely delivered.

This rating is driven primarily by what many enthusiasts value most: a huge volume of puzzles and an excellent variety of puzzle types. If you like staying busy, splitting tasks, scavenging for clues, and constantly moving from one puzzle to the next, this room has a lot to offer.

The experience begins with one of Intrepid’s signature touches: a themed introduction that helps transport players into the story before gameplay even starts. The host remains in character to launch the mission and returns in character for the finale, adding personality and energy to the experience without turning the room into a traditional actor-driven game. Afterward, the game master steps back out of character for a helpful debrief, which we appreciated.

This is a puzzle-forward room first, with the environment supporting the puzzle flow.  However, the set design is strong and polished, though for us the real star here is the game flow and the puzzles.

A particularly clever twist is that this is less about escaping and more about finding as many tonics as possible within the hour. This reminded us of other escape rooms with a “heist” theme where you are trying to get as much cash or valuables as possible before the time runs out. The more you locate, the better your odds of success. That structure creates urgency and keeps the room feeling active from start to finish.

And yes—the mission involves trying to save Babe Ruth from drinking a bad tonic, despite history suggesting he did just fine before succumbing to throat cancer in 1948. We chose not to overthink the timeline and instead embraced the dad-joke logic of it all and went along for the ride!

What We Liked

What stood out most was the high content of details and puzzles packed into the room. There is a satisfying mix of observation, deduction, tactile interaction, pattern recognition, and multi-step puzzle solving. Nothing felt repetitive. The volume of puzzles picks up the further into the story you go – so keep that in mind when pacing yourself…it starts at a standard puzzle density and then builds to a torrent of puzzles as you approach the later part of your hour.

The storyline is unusual, memorable, and playful. Escape rooms do not always need world-saving stakes, but if they do, saving history one tonic at a time is certainly a fresh approach. Call it hard to swallow if you like—we drank it in!

Things to Know

While two experienced players can absolutely enjoy this room—as we did—we think 3 to 5 players is the sweet spot for maximizing fun and covering more ground. I suspect 4 might be pretty close to a perfect number

There is one late-game challenge that may require some dexterity and physical maneuvering, but overall, this is not an especially physical room.

Parking is easy and convenient in the surrounding business park area, which is always a plus. And the Intrepid Lobby is a joy to explore – you’ll also see a detail-rish map of some of the areas other escape room companies!  Always great to see the industry try to lift everyone up.

Just some of the many fun details in the Intrepid Escape Room lobby!

Final Verdict

Tipsy Tailor is a high-energy, puzzle-heavy adventure with a fun premise and plenty to do. If your group values puzzle quantity, variety, and a room that keeps everyone engaged, we highly recommend this escape room.
